Home Stretch of the Search Process
On Saturday, July 15, the baton was officially returned to the vestry when the search committee submitted the names of four candidates to be interviewed. Currently arrangements are underway for each candidate to visit St. B's over the next couple months. Visits will include worship with the vestry, time with staff, tours of the facilities and Nashville area, an informal social gathering, as well as a formal interview. Out of respect to the candidates and their current ministries, names still cannot be released.
At this point, we wish to commend the search committee on their service to St. B's during this time of transition. We are incredibly grateful to Joe Flynn (chair), Andrea Sullivan, Bob Garth, Brea Cox, David West, Jr., Earl Ruley, George Rowe, Katherine Wright, Mavis Harrop, Nancy Cason, and Ty Sparks for the countless hours they have given over the last year. Thank you, search committee.
We also wish to ask that you would pray specifically for the vestry and the candidates in the coming months. Though we are in the home stretch of the search, the hard work of discernment is still considerable.
Going forward, questions regarding the search and interviews, can be directed to Seth Swihart, Sr. Warden, Shannon Truss, Jr. Warden, or any member of the vestry, Pat Bowlby, Jim Chaffee, Kristen Chapman, Steve Heaston, Mimi Heldman, Eddie Latimer, Andy Michel, Yvonne Poindexter, Early Ruley, Ty Sparks.
After publishing the Parish Profile and OTM, the Search Committee received 43 nominations, nine of which were duplicates, for the position of rector from the St. B’s family. Nominations were received from the St. B's family and the wider Diocesan and national community. Information regarding the committee's discernment process can be found here. After the Bishop's initial vetting of nominees, 12 candidates were presented to the search committee. Each candidate was then asked to provide a letter as to why they are interested in St. Bs, recent sermons, and responses to four key questions selected by our committee. Ten of the 12 were then interviewed by Skype, and then, in June, five candidates were visited by three members of the committee, each. On July 15, the committee met to discern which candidates would be presented to the vestry.

Almighty God, giver of every good gift: look graciously on St. Bartholomew’s, and so guide the minds of those who shall choose a rector for this parish, that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (BCP, p. 818)
